WINCHESTER – Although Graham the hound dog is 6 years 0ld, he has plenty of energy and would love to find new playmates.

Stacy Leach, SPCA of Winchester assistant office manager, said Graham is a sweet, energetic and smart dog who loves to play.

“Even though he’s a little bit old, he has a ton of energy. He loves to play with toys. A family with kids would probably be perfect just because he’s got a lot of energy. Usually, kids have all the energy to want to play with all of the time, so that would be perfect.”

While he would be a great companion for children or other dogs, she said he should not be in the same house as small animals such as cats or rabbits. She said that he is a trained hunting dog, and thinks he would make a good companion for a hunter. She added that he should not strictly be a hunting dog.

That hunting nature is still intact and Leach said when Graham sees a small animal he starts to “howl like a hound dog.”

“That hound dog instinct takes in and he wants to hunt them,” Leach said. “Other than that, he’s really sweet. Just be prepared, if you’re taking him for a walk and you see a bunny, to hold on tight.”

Graham has been at the SPCA for about two months after he was transferred from the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, which picked him up as a stray. He came to SPCA along with seven other hounds, of which he is the last one. Leach said because he is such a sweet dog, the SPCA has been determined to find him a good home.

“He’s super sweet. He’s a big love bug, loves people,” she said.

Graham is neutered, microchipped and has all of his shots, so Leach said the only price to take him home would be the $95 adoption fee. Anyone interested should call SPCA 540-662-8616 or visit the office at 111 Featherbed Lane, Winchester.
