Bridge, disposal site close after rain
Early Tuesday morning rain showers prompted a temporary closure to the 8th Street bridge and Manassas Avenue Extended yard waste site.
Jason Neale, a temporary Public Works Department employee, said over the phone Tuesday that it is not unusual for the bridge to be flooded during heavy rain periods. He added that an alternate route can be found by using Crosby Road to connect to 6th Street.
He added the 8th Street bridge is the only bridge flooded in town “as far as we know.” He said if rainfall continues Tuesday night as expected, the bridge could remain closed throughout today.
A town news release states that high waters necessitated the Tuesday closing of the Manassas Avenue site. It is always closed on Wednesdays and water should recede in time to allow for a Thursday reopening.
Neale added that other rain-related issues in town Tuesday included overflowing manholes near Andrick’s Front Royal Flea Market on Commerce Avenue.
The release states that any questions should be directed to the Public Works Department at 540-635-7819.
