Crash sends three to hospitals

A two-vehicle crash in Warren County sent three people to hospitals on Friday.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. on U.S. 340 south (Stonewall Jackson Highway), about a mile north of Rocky Lane, according to information provided by Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler. A 2011 Isuzu box truck traveling southbound on U.S. 340 stopped to make a left turn. A 2006 Mack granite truck heading south struck the box truck in the rear, Tyler said. The impact forced the box truck off the road to the right where it collided with a rock wall, Tyler said.

Emergency crews transported one passenger in the box truck by helicopter to Inova Fairfax hospital. Crews took another passenger in the Isuzu to Winchester Medical Center and the driver of the box truck to Warren Memorial Hospital. Police did not provide the names of the driver or passengers in the Isuzu.

Police charged the Mack truck driver, Allen L. Nance Jr., 50, of Winchester, with following too close, according to information from Virginia State Police spokeswoman Susan Rowland. Nance reported no injuries in the crash.

Responders closed U.S. 340 at the crash site. The incident remains under investigation by trooper R.D. Riggs with assistance by the Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue Services as well as the Front Royal Fire Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
