Strasburg man arrested on sexual assault charge

Kyle Hitchner

FRONT ROYAL – A Strasburg man has been charged in a case involving the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, according to a criminal complaint by Front Royal Police Detective Landin Waller.

Kyle Mason Hitchner, 21, of the 300 block of Pendleton Lane, was arrested Thursday on a felony count of sexual assault by force, threat or intimidation.

The complaint states that the incident occurred Feb. 9 in a Front Royal motel where the victim told police in an interview that she was drinking alcohol with friends.

The complaint states that a male the victim only knew as “Kyle from Strasburg,” whom she met on the Snapchat application, came to the hotel room.

The complaint states that the minor told police that her friends left the hotel room, and she had sex with the man but was unable to consent due to her intoxicated state, which rendered her feeling “unresponsive and dead.”

Hitchner and other witnesses all testified to the victim’s “extreme level of intoxication,” according to the complaint.

The police received a complaint of the alleged rape the following day.

The complaint states that although the victim only knew Hitchner as “Kyle from Strasburg,” she later confirmed his identity via a Facebook profile photograph.

During an interview with police, the complaint states, Hitchner admitted to meeting the victim and going to the hotel room but denied having any sexual contact with her.

The complaint states that the victim underwent a physical examination recovery kit test at Winchester Medical Center, and the subsequent analysis found DNA consistent with samples taken from Hitchner.

He is due at 9 a.m. Sept. 6 in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren Regional Jail.
