The selection of princesses to serve the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI for the 2013 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has been announced by festival officials. The princesses include Laurie Marie Connelly, Faith Elizabeth Cromer, Amelia Ruth Eyles, Katie Lindsey Guardino and Eleanor Grace Kent.
Laurie Connelly attends Shenandoah University in Winchester where she is a sophomore majoring in mass communications and minoring in sociology. She is the daughter of Judy and Chip Connelly, of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Alma and Fred Barfood, of Alum Bank, Pa., and the late Maryann and Gerald Connelly. She is a 2011 graduate of John Handley High School where she was member of the National Honor Society. She was a two sport varsity athlete in volleyball and swimming. While in high school, she won the Ron Rice award. She writes for "The Doah," Shenandoah University's campus newspaper.
Faith Cromer attends Radford University in Radford, where she is a junior majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Monica Cromer and Greg Cromer, both of Stephens City. She it he granddaughter of Jenny and Carroll Dodson, of Winchester, and Barbara Cromer, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and the late Robert Cromer. She is a 2010 graduate of Sherando High School where she participated in the symphonic and marching bands. She was a member of the Key Club, Interact Club and FFA. She is a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority -- Alpha Lambda Chapter, and holds the positions of ritual chairman, music chairman and chaplain. She is on the Radford women's ultimate frisbee team and Radford pep band. Her hobbies are cinematography and playing a variety of musical instruments. She attends Fellowship Bible Church.
Amelia Eyles attends Hollins University in Roanoke, where she is a sophomore majoring in biology. She is the daughter of Karen and Billy Eyles of Millwood. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Bridgeforth, of Winchester, and the late Ed Bridgeforth, and Marynell and Walter Eyles, of Middlebrook. She is a 2011 graduate of Clarke County High School where she was a National Honor Society member. She is a varsity volleyball player for Hollins University and enjoys foxhunting. She is a member of Snickersville Hunt and she was the winner of the Junior Field Masters Chase.
Katie Guardino attends Virginia Commonweath University in Richmond, where she is a freshman. She is the daughter of Renee and Andre Guardino of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Nancy and Charles Russell of Winchester, and Barbara and Stanley Guardino, of Midlothian. She is a 2012 graduate of Millbrook High School. As a high school student, she lettered in choir for four years and was an all-district selection. She is a member of the Japanese club and anthropology club at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Eleanor Kent attends James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, where she is a freshman majoring in sports and recreation management with a coaching minor. She is the daughter of Dena and James Kent, of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of the late Elena Smorto Papazian, and John Kent, of Newton, Pa., and the late Dedi Kent. She is a 2012 graduate of James Wood High School. She was on the honor roll all four years and earned the Northwestern District VHSL All-Academic Award. She was also selected at a TV3 Winchester student of the week in 2012 and Channel 25 Hagerstown student athlete of the month. She was the captain of the James Wood Varsity volleyball team and is a member of the women's club volleyball team at JMU. She participates in Relay for Live and the Arthritis Walk.
The princesses will accompany Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI and her Court to all festival functions throughout the 86th Festival scheduled for April 26 to May 5. They will participate in the Coronation Ceremony to be held on May 3 at 1:30 p.m. at John Handley High School. They will ride the Royal Float in the Grand Feature Parade scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. May 4.
