Rachel DuMez, a senior at Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly, was selected in a statewide competition as a winner of a John C. Youngblood Scholarship by the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (the state athletic directors organization). She is one of four such scholarship winners this year.

DuMez, of Front Royal, was a candidate in a pool of qualified seniors of public and private schools from all over Virginia. In addition to her many school activities, like heading the Prefect Court, she competes for Wakefield in swimming.

Dumez recently won conference championships in two events and made the All-Conference Swimming Team for the third straight year. She also finished in the top seven in two individual events at the State Championship meet this month, her fourth straight year of scoring points there.
