Owls swim team fast in invitational

Members of the varsity swimming team at Wakefield Country Day School had another successful meet last Saturday at the 2013 VISAA Division II Invitational Swim Meet at the Freedom Center in Manassas.

Senior captain Rachel DuMez, of Front Royal, led the way with first and second place finishes in separate individual events. She captured the 200-yard individual medley race in 2:17.70 and placed in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.51.

Two swimmers, senior Captain Conor O'Heir and sophomore Anne Katherine Burns scored points for the team by taking both a fifth and a seventh place. O'Heir, of Huntly, swam 1:05.61 for fifth in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:00.93 for seventh in the 100-yard butterfly. Burns, of Front Royal, took 7.37 seconds off her 500-yard freestyle time for her fifth in 6:46.00 and was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.18.

Eighth grader Lucas Dumez was almost as good, earning a sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.04 and a seventh in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:24.39. Overall, the Owls boys placed 10th and the Girls were 11th.
