Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival princesses chosen
Festival officials for the 2013 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has announced the selection of princesses to serve in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI. The princesses include Jenny Lee Beasley, Natalie Angela Flagg, Essence Marie Fusco, Kelby Larissa Jackson, Allyson Whitney McManus and Katherine Lynn Seymour.
Jenny Beasley will represent Millbrook High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Cheryl and William Beasley of Winchester, and the granddaughter of Bettye and Charles Violette of Winchester and Dora and Charles Caprye of Bellingham, Wash. DECA president and as state finalist, she competed at the International Development Conference. She is a member of the National Honor Society, lettered on the varsity tennis team, and received the Pioneer award, Coach's award and Sportsman award. She also is the varsity boys basketball manager. She is a member of Victory Church, where she volunteers with the children's ministry and community outreach.
Natalie Flagg will represent Clarke County High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Mary and Mike Flagg, of Millwood, and the granddaughter of Mary M. Dubezuk of Chicago, Ill., and the late Darlene and Wilson Flagg, who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, DECA, and Interact Club and is the year book marketing manager. She has lettered in track and field and cheerleading all four years of high school. She is the current 4-H Ruritan Club Miss Clarke County Fair.
Essence Fusco will represent John Handley High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Jennifer Fusco and James Jackson, both of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Diane Fusco, of Winchester, and the great granddaughter of Anne and David Daylor, of Winchester. She has been a member of the varsity cheerleading squad all four years of high school and is the student body president. She was class president her freshman and sophomore years, has been honored as homecoming princess her freshman and sophomore years, and is the 2012 Homecoming Queen. She is a member of the Key club, History club, Anchor club and DECA.
Kelby Jackson will represent James Wood High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Janet and Steven Jackson, of Winchester. She is the granddaughter of Judy and John Mumaw, of Strasburg. and Shirley Jackson, of Winchester. She is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as Senior class president. She received the Blue and Gold award her freshman and sophomore years, and was James Wood's Homecoming Queen. As a four year member of the varsity volleyball team, she was captain and first team all-region her senior year, as well as all district and MVP her junior year.
Allyson McManus is representing Randolph Macon Academy where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Karen and Ronald McManus, of Middletown. She is the granddaughter of Frances Boyd, of Wallingford, Conn., and the late Wallis Boyd, and Patricia and Ronald McManus of Lexington. She is cadet wing vice commander of the VA-91st AFJROTC cadet unit. She was awarded the American Legion Scholastic Award for demonstrating leadership and being in the top 10 percent of her high school class and the American Veterans award for personal and academic achievements. She is vice president of the Honor Council and a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and National German Honor Society. She is a three sport varsity athlete lettering in soccer, cross country and basketball.
Katherine Seymour will represent Sherando High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Dawn and John Seymour, of Stephens City. She is the granddaughter of Beth Conover of, Lakewood, N.J., and the late Leonard Conover and Margaret and Louis Seymour, of Cinnaminson, N.J. Katherine is a member of the National Honor Society. She was health and physical education student of the year and outstanding student in driver education for 2010. Katherine is a two sport varsity athlete at Sherando where she lettered two years in both basketball and softball. She was All Northwestern District outfielder 2012, all academic basketball and softball 2011. She is Sherando's Homecoming Queen.
The princesses will accompany Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI and her Court to all festival functions throughout the 86th Festival scheduled for April 26 to May 5. They will participate in the Coronation Ceremony to be held on May 3 at 1:30 p.m. at John Handley High School. They will ride the Royal Float in the Grand Feature Parade scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. May 4.
