FotoDC, with support from partners Destination D.C. and Pepco Edison Place Gallery, has announced the third annual Cherry Blossom Photo Contest and the first Spirit of DC Photo Contest. Both contests, underway now, seek exceptional springtime photography. Prizes will be cash, online exposure and various mediums of exhibitions.
The Cherry Blossom Photo Contest seeks imagery directly connected to the cherry blossom celebrations, festivities and landscapes -- day or night, rain or shine.
With a broader reach, the Spirit of DC Photo Contest awards photography, on and off the Mall, that captures the essence of the city.
Cherry Blossom Central will display art of favorite 2013 entrants and last year's winners from April 4 to 26 at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery, 702 8th St., NW.
Both photo contests run through midnight on April 18. Current work and images taken in previous years are eligible. Images created via any form of photography (digital, mobile phone, film and alternative processes) will be considered but must be submitted electronically at www.FotoDC.org.
Each category will have first, second and third place winners, receiving cash prizes of $500, $250 and $150, respectively. Supplementary prizes in the form of flash drives, donated by sponsor USB Memory Direct.com, will be awarded at the judges' discretion for honorable mentions and "favorites." A panel of judges will select the outstanding work.
The panel includes: Gina Martin of National Geographic, Carolyn Russo of the Smithsonian, Christopher Addison of Addison Ripley Gallery and photographer/author Frank Van Riper. Details and entry rules for the contest can be found at www.FotoDC.org. Images entered in the Spirit of DC Photo Contest may be used by Destination D.C., the official convention and tourism office for Washington, D.C., to promote visitation.
