The following students at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal were invited to participate in the Military School Band Festival, which was held Feb. 22 to 24.
Sophomores Roop Atwal and Xel Ochoa, both of Front Royal, played flute in the band. Atwal is the daughter of Sukhdev and Jaspreet Atwal, and Ochoa is the daughter of Edgar and Susan Ochoa.
Junior Catey Borden, the daughter of Clif and Dean Borden of Winchester, sang as a soprano in the chorus.
Sophomore Jacob Allen Dodson, the son of Frank and Carol Dodson of Front Royal, played timpani in the band.
Freshman Will Long III, the son of Bill and Sandy Long of Front Royal, and senior Ryan M. Seabright, the son of Adamarie and Michael Seabright of Winchester, performed as a drum majors.
The MSBF brings together band students from military schools and colleges throughout the country. Students are eligible to participate only upon selection by their respective school's bandmaster or chorus director. Festival attendees spend two days in clinics and rehearsals, then compete for first chair honors, top voice awards and top drum major awards.
The MSBF culminates with a performance open to the local community. The event rotates among the different schools each year. This year it was held at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union. In 2014, the clinics and competitions will take place at Randolph-Macon Academy. The concluding concert will take place at the annual conference of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, in recognition of the organization's 100th anniversary.
