A team of four Wakefield Country Day School juniors placed fifth in the State We the People state finals, held at the visitor's center in Williamsburg on Feb. 15.

A larger team, consisting of Sean Brown, Alex Foster, Briana Johnson, Rachel Paulisch, Sydney Penza and Michael Stone, won the District 5 competition two weeks earlier. Only Brown, Foster, Paulisch and Ahmed Rahimi were available for the state contest, making Wakefield the smallest team in the competition, by far.

We the People is an academic competition based on the Constitution, government and politics.

The Wakefield team answered two questions on each of six units, on topics like immigration, criminal procedure, the 14th Amendment and cooperation in Congress. Each team member at states gave nine testimonies, working in groups of three.
