Author Lisa Mikitarian, of Shenandoah County, will speak at this year's Ladies' Horticultural Luncheon, the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival office announced this week.
Held at the Lee-Jackson Best Western at 10:30 a.m. May 3, the luncheon is a non-alcohol event, "described most accurately as a dressy, sociable, Shenandoah Valley luncheon for ladies," a press release from the festival office said.
Mikitarian has served in the U.S. Army and the Virginia National Guard, first on the enlisted side and then as an officer. She attended the Defense Language Institute and has taught English as a second language for several years. She also writes fiction, having published "Her Safari," a collection of short stories, in 2011.
The festival also announced this week that Tim League, founder and CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, will headline the Valley Health Business-at-the-Bloom Luncheon at noon May 1.
