George Reinsfelder, of the Shenandoah Astronomical Society, recently presented the April program at the New Market Area Library, assisted by Dottie Edwards, science teacher at Strasburg High School. About 15 participants came to learn about star gazing, and some traveled to the county park in Maurertown for night observation.

The next adult program for the library will be held on May 18, at 3 pm on the topic "Putting Food By."

"Putting Food By" is an old country expression that conjures up memories of home and preserving the bounty of nature's harvest. Adult program coordinator Bev Butterfield states that the program will be an introduction to the art of Food Preservation. Once a practical necessity for rural families, and then a nearly lost art, food preservation has greatly rebounded in popularity.

Butterfield will discuss getting started with food preservation, including canning, freezing, jam-making and pickling. Dottie Edwards will discuss food dehydrating. The program is free of charge and pre-registration is not necessary.
