Area students from Wakefield prepare for college in fall

Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly draws its students from eight local counties, and its 20 graduates are making plans to head off to college. In its history, 100 percent of Wakefield's graduates have gone on to college -- many to the college of their choice. The following students from Warren and Frederick counties plan to attend college in the fall.

Katie Brown, of Front Royal, will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Brown was the class valedictorian and graduated Summa Cum Laude with an advanced classical diploma. Her senior thesis topic was The Great Unanswered Question: Exploring Scientific and Philosophical Evidence for the Human Soul.

Daniel Chadduck, of Winchester, will attend Guilford College. He graduated with a classical diploma. Chadduck was the male Athlete of the Month in October and in March. He was voted to the All-Conference First Team in soccer and basketball, and was an honorable addition to the lacrosse team. His senior thesis topic was The Evolution of Humor: A Look into the Changes in Comedy in America since the Age of Television.

Rachel DuMez, of Front Royal, will attend the University of Richmond. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Classical Diploma. DuMez was the female Athlete of the Month in February and she made the All-Conference First Team in swimming. Her senior thesis topic was Mens Sana in Corpore Sano: The Benefits of Sports on Child Development.

Mary Leskovec, of Winchester, will attend George Mason University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with an advanced classical diploma. Her senior thesis topic was Solitary Confinement: Living Death.

Sam Lilburn, of Front Royal, will attend James Madison University. He graduated Cum Laude with a classical diploma. Lilburn was the male Athlete of the Month for November-December. He was voted to the All-Conference First Team in soccer and basketball. His senior thesis topic was Religion and Culture: The Secret Separation.

Alejandro Rodriguez will attend Miami University in Ohio. He graduated with an advanced classical diploma.
