Parks, Recreation honors Fishing Derby champs

On June 1, 35 local children, ages 5 to 12, participated in the day of fishing at the Kids All-American Fishing Derby sponsored by Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation Department. The derby was held in conjunction with National Fishing Week.

Top awards winners included:

Age Group 5 to 8 Winners:
Caught the Most -- Jamon McClure, 13
Heaviest Fish -- Abriana Pennington, 8 oz.
Longest Fish -- Brayden Rice ,15 inches

Age Group 9 to 12 winners:
Caught the Most -- Robert Baker, 10
Heaviest Fish -- Alex Burner, 9 oz.
Longest Fish -- Dyan Fadely, 9.5 inches

Parks and Rec. thanks Orkney Springs Fire and Rescue (concession and first aid assistant), Bryce Resort (for allowing the use of their beautiful lake - Lake Lauren), Sheared to Perfection (prizes), and Wal-Mart Supercenter (prize). Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation is looking forward to next year and another memorable derby.
