A team of Wakefield Country Day School eighth grade students won the Roller Coaster Mania contest on May 17 at Kings Dominion. They were the overall winners in the middle school division (grades 6 to 8) with the "Pac Man's Final Run" coaster.

The winning team consisted of Sydnei Eachus, Dante Parker, Tanner Perry and Harrison Wells. They spent two weeks building the coaster and used their Physical Science knowledge of gravity, centripetal force and friction to construct the coaster. They beat 15 other Middle school teams from both public and private schools in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.

The team of Campbell Baker, Lucas Dumez, Gage Landis and Nicholas Leskovic also competed in the contest; they won a prize for the most frightening roller coaster design with their entry, "Pompeii's Revenge."

The competitors are students in Wakefield's eighth grade physical science class and are taught by Ann Pankow.
