R-MA students earn end of year awards

Local students at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal earned awards during the end-of-year ceremonies on May 20:

From Front Royal, recent Randolph-Macon graduate Thomas Abell, the son Kittie and Rob Abell, received the Presidential Academic Education Award for Academic Excellence and the Certificate of Excellence for British literature. Tanner Blankenship, the son Daniel and Wendy Blankenship, received the President's Award for Academic Achievement. Elizabeth Doran, the daughter Joe and Mariola Doran, received the President's Award for Academic Achievement. Benjamin Pederson, the son Stephen and Andrea Pederson, received the President's Award for Academic Achievement and the Certificate of Excellence for U.S. government. Marcus Jacob Williams, the son George and Angie Williams, received the President's Award for Academic Achievement. They are all recent graduates of Randolph-Macon.

C. Grace Alexander, a junior and the daughter Lyle and Melinda Alexander, received the Certificate of Excellence for AP psychology, the Certificate of Excellence for AP European history, the Certificate of Excellence for AP English 11, and the Certificate of Excellence for ground school. Faith Funderberg, the daughter Ken and Susan Funderberg, received the Certificate of Excellence for religion -- new testament. She was also a junior during the 2013-14 school year.

Jacob Allen Dodson, the son Frank and Carol Dodson, received the Community Service Award, the Certificate of Excellence for U.S. history, and the Certificate of Excellence for Honors English 10. Shelby M. Sebring, the daughter Barry and Tamala Sebring, received the Certificate of Excellence for biology and the Outstanding Cadet Award for aerospace II. They both completed the 2012-13 school year as sophomores.

Meghan Melberg, the daughter Peg Melberg of Linden and Tim Melberg of Idaho Falls, Idaho, received the Certificate of Excellence for Honors World History II, the Certificate of Excellence for Honors Algebra II/Trigonometry, the Certificate of Excellence for chemistry, the Top Researcher Award for Victorian history and literature, and the Certificate of Excellence for honors English 9. She was a freshman this past year.

From Winchester, Katelyn A. Shea, the daughter of Debra and Bobby Adams and James T. Shea, received Certificate of Excellence for geometry. She was an eighth grade student during the 2013-14 school year. Junior Catey Borden, the daughter of Clif and Dean Borden, received the Certificate of Excellence for AP art history. Margot Cramer, a junior and the daughter Kim and Steve Cramer, received the Theatre Leadership Award. Jackson W. McGraw, the son James and Beverley McGraw, received the President's Award for Academic Achievement and the Certificate of Excellence for AP U.S. government. He graduated from Randolph-Macon this past May.

From Berryville, junior Caitlin Grace Bunker, the daughter Rev. Jonathan Bunker and Dr. Susan Gawalt, received the Community Service Award, the Certificate of Excellence for honors anatomy and physiology, the Certificate of Excellence for Honors: The arts in society, and the Outstanding Cadet Award for Aerospace III. Freshman Emma Geraldine Bunker, also the daughter Rev. Jonathan Bunker and Dr. Susan Gawalt, received the Outstanding Cadet Award for aerospace I.

From Middletown, Allyson McManus, the daughter Ronald and Karen McManus, received the Presidential Academic Education Award for Academic Excellence and the Outstanding Cadet Award for Aerospace IV. Ashley McManus, also the daughter Ronald and Karen McManus, received the Presidential Academic Education Award for Academic Excellence, the Certificate of Excellence for AP chemistry, and the Certificate of Excellence for Honors Utopia/Dystopia. Both are 2013 graduates of Randolph-Macon.
