Rotary has made impact in community

The New Market Rotary Club has announced it has been able too help the community in various ways recently.

Its Reading with the Rebels program is a successful partnership event between the New Market Library volunteers with the New Market Rebels Baseball team reading story books to over 60 local children. The New Market Rotary purchased books for each child to take home at the end of the day. Other fun activities included face painting and treats.

A large donation from the Rotary's matching grant program will provide an increase in foods available at the local food pantry Loaves and Fishes, which will help support local families in need.

The Rotary Club received a large donation from the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the members of the New Market Seventh-day Adventist Church to allow the New Market Rotary Club to provide an emergency situation Shelter Box for families in areas devastated by natural disasters nationally and internationally. A Shelter Box houses and feeds ten people.

For the program Keeping Route 211 Clean for Our Community, a cleanup team of Rotarians with gloves, plastic trash bags and boots delve into a trash-ridden area on U.S. 211 called Crisman Holler twice a year to pick up trash to make the community more inviting.
