Strasburg FFA makes high marks at state convention
Members of the Strasburg Future Farmers of America chapter traveled to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to participate in the 86th State FFA Convention June 18-21. They attended business sessions and competed in four career development events.
Senior Agricultural Mechanics Team members Wyatt Peterson, Christian Plaugher, Carl Williams and Ashley Yanego received a silver rating.
Junior Agricultural Mechanics Team Members Christian Plaugher and Ashley Yanego received a bronze rating.
Environmental and Natural Resources Team Members Kathryn Flynn, Bethany Gochenour, Madison Orndorff and Rachel Taylor received a silver rating.
Job interview participant Josh Stickles placed fifth in the event.
Proficiency awards are awarded to students with outstanding SAE's. Addie Guthrie was recognized as a state proficiency award winner in agricultural communications and Bethany Gochenour in goat production.
Tyler Wakeman was recognized as the Northern Area Star in agricultural placement for his work at Pine Hill Charolais Farm.
The Strasburg FFA Chapter also was recognized for many other accomplishments. Two FFA members received their State FFA degrees. Five FFA members received their American FFA degrees.
The chapter received the Public Relations Award gold rating, the Chapter Scrapbook gold rating and the Superior Chapter Award gold rating, being recognized as a three-star chapter in Virginia and one of the top 18 chapters in the state. The chapter will be judged at the national level in October.
