Winchester's WXVA to play bluegrass on weekends

Winchester radio station WXVA, AM station 610, has announced that starting this week it will broadcast The Bluegrass Block Party each weekend. At 6 p.m. Fridays, Ewell Furguson of West Virginia will host the Bluegrass Preservation Society.

On Saturday evenings, Bluegrass expert Dr. Phil Nusbaum will present Bluegrass Review. His previous show was on Washington's WAMU station before being moved to the WAMU HD-2 channel, which doesn't reach Winchester. Saturdays after the new show, more local and regional bluegrass will hit the airwaves.

Then on Sunday, The Ol' Hippie Bluegrass Show will offer up bluegrass hits from the 1960s with hosts Jerry Eicher and Brad Long. The show will include hits with some history too. Later that night, clog it out with the Shenandoah's best local bluegrass bands winding up the Block Party.

Over the summer and into the fall, WXVA is planning to fine tune and expand its bluegrass coverage, with more local artists and coverage of live music.
