Dave "Bud" and Fran "Darlene" Lewis, with 75 of their closest friends and family, graciously celebrated their 50th anniversary on Aug. 31 at the Hampton Inn in Woodstock. Local friends as well as relatives traveled from Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., to celebrate with them.
Lewis was raised in Romney, W.Va., while Mrs. Lewis was raised in Louisa, Ky. The couple met in 1962 after moving to Northern Virginia and while working at Melpar Inc. They were married in Alexandria on Aug. 31, 1963.
Together, they lovingly raised three successful children plus two by marriages -- Tim and Naomi Lewis of Winchester, Terri Lewis of Edinburg and Katrina and Mike Lee of Sumerduck.
The Lewises have enjoyed four grandsons -- David and Daniel Lewis and Trevor and Ryan Lee. Throughout Lewis' government career, the couple were relocated, from the
East Coast to the West Coast and back, and moved entire households seven times. In 1998, they with their daughter, Terri, happily retired to their beautiful "Riverplace" estate in Edinburg. They have set the example of a strong foundation and what a marriage should be, instilling in their children, "It doesn't matter where you go in life...what you do...or how much you have...it's who you have beside you that counts."
