Wakefield Country Day School students earned recognition for their creative writing at the annual Samuels Library Holiday Writing Contest.
The library in Front Royal partners each year with the Royal Oak Book Shop to sponsor the writing contest, and this year students from Wakefield and eleven other elementary, middle and high schools, plus home school students participated. The students with the winning entries were presented certificates at a ceremony at the library on Dec. 19. First, second and third place awards were given to students in grades kindergarten to 12th grade.
Wakefield was honored with 10 award winners this year. Bayleigh Fox in third grade and Grayson Galeone in eighth grade at WCDS wrote first place entries. Second place awards were given to Lauren Mehl in third grade,Lia Feit in fourth grade, Eva Parios in seventh grade and Harmony Lindstrom in eighth grade.
Wakefield third place recognitions were handed to Lily Griffin in second grade and Tatiana Calderon in seventh grade. Kindergarteners Briana Guiffre and CJ Foreman won awards for their artwork. The WCDS students' work has been published in a bound volume of all the poetry and short stories written by the student authors and given to each winner.
