Battlefields Foundation announces new board members
The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation has announced its board of trustees for 2014, with Allen Louderback of Luray chosen as chairman of the board, and Butch Smiley of Staunton joining as the newest trustee.
Louderback represented Virginia's 15th District in the House of Delegates from 2000 to 2005 and is now a private business owner and management consultant specializing in budget streamlining, efficiency and business productivity. Louderback was a trustee of the Battlefields Foundation from 2001-2006 before rejoining the board in 2011.
They are joined by three other officers and 13 returning trustees. The foundation's other officers for 2014 include Nicholas P. Picerno of Bridgewater as vice-chairman, Brian K. Plum of Luray as treasurer and Robert T. Mitchell Jr., Esq., of Winchester as secretary.
Returning trustees include John P. Ackerly of Richmond, Childs F. Burden of Middleburg, Sen. R. Creigh Deeds of Charlottesville, Michael A. Garber of Harrisonburg, J. Roderick O. Graves of Luray, Joe T. May of Leesburg, Rhodes B. Ritenour and David Ruth of Richmond; Faye Cooper, Butch Smiley, C.J. Steuart Thomas III, all of Staunton; and Miles Carrington Williams of Englewood, N.J.
The new board takes office as the SVBF begins a year filled with ambitious projects, including the Campaign for Third Winchester restoration effort; the renovation of the historic Lee-Jackson Building into an orientation center, store and restaurant; major land preservation efforts and a host of sesquicentennial programs, including conferences on March 8 and Aug. 2 and the 150th anniversary of the Third Battle of Winchester on Sept. 19 and 20.
