Central High scholarship formed by alumni

The Central High School class of 1978 has announced it recently teamed with Shenandoah Community Foundation to offer a scholarship fund for future college students. The 1978 Memorial Fund, established by alumnus Steve Shipp and his friends, is in memory of departed classmates.

According to a press release, the group's motivation for starting the scholarship is part of an effort to make the world a little better for rising students.

Principal Melissa Hensley of Central High School was quoted in the release saying students will benefit more and more from the scholarship as the cost of higher education continues to rise, making it more difficult for them to pursue their educational and career goals.

The class of '78 plans for more scholarships too, indicating that fund raising efforts are in early stages and as more money is donated, the award amount will grow. The first yearly scholarship award will be made this year.

To contribute to the scholarship, send checks to Shenandoah Community Foundation, ATTN: CHS Class of '78 Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 31, Woodstock, VA 22824. For more information, visit www.ShenandoahCF.org or call 540-459-7737.
