An opening reception for an art show of work by Joy Wolf of Strasburg and her late father Ted Wolf, will be at the Strasburg Town Hall, 174 East King St., from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ted Wolf was born in 1908 and studied art in college but spent most of his life running an advertising company. He sketched the ideas for clients but kept artists on staff for the finished art work. In his late 70s, after he and his wife retired to the Eastern Shore, he began to paint and kept at it until his death at the age of 98. He had a number of shows and sold paintings. He also lived in Winchester for a time and was a member of the Shenandoah Arts Council.

His daughter, Joy Wolf, is an anthropologist who has spent much of her life in countries like Nepal, India and a dozen African countries. She has lived in Strasburg for 15 years, and when her office in the State Department was eliminated, she adopted a horse and took an art course at Lord Fairfax Community College. Since then, she has painted, selling her work at Art at the Mill shows in Millwood and in Strasburg at Cristina's Café and Shenandoah Valley Artworks.

The father painted in acrylic, the daughter paints in oil. He enjoyed birds, and she likes horses. But they share a taste for strong colors and lovely lines. The joint show will be featured at the Shenandoah Showcase art show through January.
