Home Instead Senior Care has announced its search for Virginia's outstanding senior volunteer. The Salute to Senior award recognizes the invaluable contributions of adults age 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.
Senior volunteerism not only benefits others, but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities, which Aaron Blight, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in Frederick, Warren, Shenandoah and Clarke counties and the city of Winchester, said are important elements of healthy aging.
Members of the community are asked to nominate and vote for the everyday heroes through March 1 at SalutetoSeniorService.com. State winners will be determined by popular vote. A panel of senior care experts will then select a national Salute to Senior Service winner from among the state honorees.
Home Instead Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners' designated and approved nonprofit organizations. Their personal stories will be shared online on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winners designated and approved nonprofit charity.
