Apple Blossom Festival princesses chosen

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival officials have announced the selection of princesses to serve in the Court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVII for the festival in May. The princesses include, Blair Elizabeth Adams, Sydney Janae Barr, Lauren Jessica Beasley, Molly Catherine Farinholt and Veronica Mae Hamme.

Blair Adams is representing Sherando High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Brenda and Steven Adams of Stephen City and the granddaughter of Clara Young of Olpe, Kan., and the late James Young and the late Linda and Bill Adams. Blair is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, and the Young Politicians Club and was a member of the Varsity Volleyball Team both her junior and senior years. Blair served as captain her senior year.

Sydney Barr is representing Millbrook High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Bobbi and Calvin Bailey of Stephens City. She is the granddaughter of Mary and Rosnier Bailey of Front Royal, and Martha and Sam Dodson of Edinburg. Sydney is a member of the National Honor Society, and SCA secretary. She lettered in varsity softball and won first and second team all-area and district. She received the Presidential Academic and Pioneer Spirit Awards 2013-2014. She is the People to People student ambassador Australia and New Zealand and participated in the Gifted Independent Study Program

Lauren Beasley is representing Clarke County High School where she is a junior. She is the daughter of Sharon and Allen Beasley of Bluemont. She is the granddaughter of Nancy and CJ Phillips of Tazewell, and Barbara Beasley of Bluemont. Lauren is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, and parliamentarian for Clarke County FFA. She is a two-sport varsity athlete in cheerleading and track. She won Miss Photogenic at the 2012 Clarke County Fair.

Molly Farinholt is representing James Wood High School where she is a senior. She is the daughter of Sharon and Matthew Farinholt of Stephenson. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy and Jim Ryan of Oak Island, N.C., and Marilyn and Ned Farinholt of Winchester. Molly is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, Sacred Heart Church Youth Group and the secretary of Interact Club. She is a four-sport athlete on the cross country, swim, track and soccer teams, and she received the All Sports Academic Award and was on the A-B honor roll.

Veronica Hamme is representing John Handley High School where she is a Senior. She is the daughter of Christina and Philip Hamme of Winchester, VA. She is the granddaughter of Agatha and JC Schooler of Key West, FL., and Gerry and Gene Hamme of Manchester, PA. Veronica is a member of the National Honor Society, AP Scholar, Handley Scholar, SGA Student Body President her Senior year, and Class President all four years . Veronica is a member of the Track Team and Volleyball Team Manager.

The Princesses will accompany Queen Shenandoah LXXXVII and her Court to all Festival functions throughout the 87th Festival scheduled for April 25 through May 4, 2014. They will participate in the Coronation Ceremony to be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at John Handley High School. They will ride the Royal Float in the Grand Feature Parade scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014.
