Chelsea Academy announced that on Feb. 12, its students who participated in the Blue Ridge Regional Math Counts test won third place, the best showing for a Chelsea team in its five years in the national math competition.

Led by math instructor and team sponsor Guy Bauer, four middle school students -- Cathy Yuan, Patrick Pilon, Rose Norris and Tommy Bodoh -- tackled challenging problems for three hours. Individual honors were won by Cathy Yuan and Patrick Pilon, who placed 12th and fifth, respectively, in the regional competition.

More than 60 students from Warren and Frederick counties participated in the event.
