Shenandoah bluegrass festival announces lineup for May 4

The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has announced the lineup for the Shenandoah Ford Bluegrass Festival, planned to begin at 10 a.m. May 4 at the Festival's Sprint Event Tent, on the campus of the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester.

The lineup will feature Rhonda Vincent, Balsam Range, Country Current and local favorite Bud's Collective.

Rhonda Vincent is a fiery vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter currently on tour in support of her latest release, the two-disc album "Only Me," released on Jan. 28.

She has received seven consecutive "Female Vocalist of the Year" awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, named the IBMA's 2001 "Entertainer of the Year" and honored as co-writer of the 2004 IBMA "Song of the Year" for Kentucky Borderline.

Vincent was nominated for a 2006 Grammy award for Best Bluegrass Album for "Ragin' Live," a 2007 double nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for "All American Bluegrass Girl" and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for "Midnight Angel" featuring Bobby Osborne.

Balsam Range consists of five outstanding acoustic musicians and singers from Haywood County, N.C. In 2010 and '11, the band was an IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year nominee. They were nominated for the 2011 Album of the Year for "Trains I Missed" and won Song of the Year for "Trains I Missed." In 2013, they won the IBMA Album of the Year for "Papertown."

The seven members of Country Current return to the festival under the direction of senior chief musician Keith Arneson. The ensemble employs musicians from diverse backgrounds and extensive recording and touring experience.

Bud's Collective, officially formed in December of 2012, will open the festival, with Buddy Dunlap singing lead and his brother Jack playing mandolin. They offer a mix of original material, traditional bluegrass and other favorites.

Performances will be Bud's Collective at 10 a.m., Balsam Range at 11 a.m., Rhonda Vincent at noon and Country Current at 1 p.m., with Balsam Range and Rhonda Vincent performing second sets at 1 and 2 p.m. respectively.

The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival will run from April 26 to May 4. For more information, visit www.thebloom.com.
