Delegates from the Interact clubs of Central High School and Massanutten Academy in Woodstock recently learned about Rotary Youth Study Exchange programs at The Homestead in Hot Springs.
There 11 teenage leaders participated in the 99th Annual Conference of Rotary District 7570, which encompasses 83 clubs including the Rotary Club of Woodstock.
The teens joined high school students from throughout Virginia at sessions specifically designed for Interact Club members. They met the Rotary Group Study Exchange from New South Wales, Australia, and heard from winners of competitions in Rotary Youth Leadership.
Club members were accompanied by Ann Stalbird, Interact chairman of the Rotary Club of Woodstock, which sponsors both Interact clubs, and local Rotarians, Alica Gutshall and Steve Shaffer.
The students then traveled to Bath County High School where they shared projects with leaders of other Interact clubs.
Cadet Weiouqing Chen reported that the Massanutten Academy club has raised money with snack packs to help support Coats for Kids and International Awareness projects. Monica ValCourt is club president.
Sam Barbour of the Central High School Club described the 5K race their club is planning for an International Rotary Project. They have participated in the Rotary trash pickup project and a local Stop Hunger Now event. Ricky Neff is president of the Central High Interact Club.
