Chelsea Academy announces regional science fair winners
Chelsea Academy in Front Royal has announced it made an impressive showing at this year's Shenandoah Valley Regional Science Fair at James Madison University.
Competing in a range of categories and grade levels, five Chelsea students won a total of seven awards for their projects. By placing first in chemistry, freshman Chris Bergida qualified to participate in the Virginia State Science Fair in Richmond.
Other winners were 11th graders Isaac Buono, who came in second for the Virginia Dentist Association Award in medicine and health, and Jamie Little who earned second in energy and aerospace science; ninth grader Gigi Grillo, who came in second in animal science; and seventh grader Sam Peters, who came in first and earned a NOAA "Taking the Pulse of the Planet" Award in earth science
The competition followed the students' participation in the Chelsea Academy's science fair in February. The experience of presenting their projects and taking questions from judges prepared students well for the regional event at JMU. Their teachers, Teri McGrath and Chris Foeckler, helped guide students with their projects in a process that stretched back to the fall semester.
