Radio station 92.5 WINC-FM in Winchester has announced that Fremont Street Nursery, Special Love Inc. and the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter have been selected as beneficiaries of the 2014 Chain of Checks campaign.
Special Love will use their Chain of Checks funding to provide an OctoberFest Weekend camp to pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Fremont Street Nursery, which provides quality childcare within the financial reach of families, needs to purchase a used 15-passenger van to transport their children to museums, programs and other activities. The nursery currently makes multiple trips using the director's private vehicle.
WATTS provides a safe, temporary overnight shelter during the cold weather months for homeless guests at host sites in Winchester, Frederick and Clarke counties.
Since 32 organizations applied for Chain of Checks funding, the committee faced one of its toughest decisions in years choosing the final three.
The first fundraiser will be the 23rd Annual Chain of Checks Golf Tournament on Columbus Day, Oct. 13 at Rock Harbor Golf Course.
A Chain of Checks Match Day will be held on Dec. 11. Four corporate sponsors will match community donations.
Since 1986, Chain of Checks has raised over $1.2 million for local charities and is a proud partner with the Community Foundation of Northern Shenandoah Valley.
For a news release from WINC-FM, Barry Lee, founder of the Chain of Checks, said the station also will line up "Fifty Friends" to host a Chain of Checks Change Jar at their business or organization.
