The Rotary Club of Linden recently received a $3,000 community project grant from Rotary International District 7570 that will be combined with other funding to help complete a project to improve the playground at E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School in Front Royal.
In 2012, the Linden Rotary Club started collaborating with the public school on plans to upgrade the playground facilities and replace its old equipment.
Grant funds are provided as a 50-50 match with club funding, and will be combined with proceeds from the Linden Rotary's recent 2014 Gala and an additional $3,000 donation from the Front Royal Kiwanis to acquire additional equipment. The Linden club's "sweat equity" will include painting the playground fence and remaining playground equipment.
"The members of the Rotary Club of Linden seek service projects where a balance of time, talent and financial resource can be applied," Linden Rotary Club President Connemara Tolson stated in a news release. "We understand that money is important to further many needs in our community, but we especially seek projects that can benefit by leveraging the talents, expertise and brawn of the members of our club. Toward this end we have contributed more than 400 volunteer hours, so far, to this project."
