Shenandoah County Public Schools has announced its teachers of the year, one for each school in the division. The Shenandoah Education Foundation honored the teachers at a dinner and banquet at Shrinemont in Orkney Springs on May 2.

Hank Zimmerman, board chairman for Shenandoah County Library, has been recognized as "Outstanding Library Trustee" for libraries serving a population of 24,000 to 49,999 by the Virginia Public Library Director's Association. The association also recognized the library's outreach to residents of Dutch Haven, led by Adult Services Librarian David Robinson, as "Outstanding Program for Seniors."

Zane Clark, of Front Royal recently was named one of 22 students nationwide to receive the AAA Safety-Patrol of the Year award. He is a fifth grader at Leslie Fox Keyser Elementary School in Front Royal and was nominated by the Assistant Principal Jerry Rosprich. Blue Ridge Hospice held its Annual Volunteer Recognition on April 18 to honor the not-for-profit organization's 906 volunteers who year-around give generously of their time and talents to support the many aspects of Blue Ridge Hospice. The tribute was held at Millwood Station in Winchester.

Wayside Theatre has announced the winner of the Young Playwrights' Competition is Libby Powell, a senior at Sherando High School in Stephens City. Her play will be staged at Wayside at 7 p.m. April 30.
