I gasped when I read the article about a brazen proposal to build a Popeye's & Papa Johns Pizza along Strasburg's Entrance corridor on Route 11 at Hupp's Hill. Thankfully, Strasburg officials, ever vigilant of such proposals and after careful review, quickly sprang into action and took a preemptive strike against this proposal before this idea became a reality! Their safe-guarding of the vibrant business environment of historic downtown Strasburg should not go unappreciated! Ever mindful of their desire to draw people downtown is a noble gesture! The functional & attractive architecture of the buildings along this highly protected corridor that house the businesses of 7-11; Burger King; McDonalds/Exxon; Quick Lube Car Wash; Arbys; the two strip type shopping areas; the Italian & Mexican restaurants; the two hotels; the two banks; Food-Lion Shopping Center & Rite-Aid, not to mention Jerry King's "development observation tower" all reflect a "tasteful & non-glaring" and yet a very truly unique character that can only be found in Strasburg! There is no doubt that PopEye’s and Papa Johns would have stood out like a sore-thumb! Akin to trying to fit a square peg in a round hole! Great work people! That was a close call!
