Sir:

Proposition 8 amended California's constitution to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Ten percent of black Baptists voted for it; a large number of evangelical, Hispanic, Roman Catholic and Mormons voted for it. Why? They understand the issue. Pastors explained the dangers of the homosexual agenda not only to society but also preaching the Bible and rearing children.

Look at Canada. People are being fined and arrested for publicly talking or writing about the homosexual agenda. Children are taught in public school that sodomy is an acceptable alternative lifestyle. Teachers encourage them to participate in this activity.

Two things President-elect Obama promised were to revoke the Defense of Marriage Act, forcing all states, even California, to recognize judge-imposed same-sex marriage in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He said he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act, allowing nine-month, partial birth and taxpayer paid abortions.

Obama, Colin Powell and Oprah Winfrey seem not to know the history of these positions. They ignore the fact that children are our future.

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, like Hitler, supported eugenics. She wanted a super race. She wanted to destroy large families, especially blacks and Catholics. Her 1932 "Plan for Peace" said, "Apply a rigid strict policy of segregation and sterilization to tainted populations lest it be passed on to any progeny." Her autobiography tells of her support for the KKK. She financially supported development of the pill. Since contraception wasn't successful, she successfully pushed for unlimited abortion. Today one in three children is killed; 33 percent of those killed are black.

In the '60s, all of this pushed strong families, especially black families, into disintegration. This is genocide. I can't believe Obama, Powell and Winfrey want this genocidal attack to succeed.

Help stop it. Join the 14 million already praying for the new administration to change their hearts. Contact lepanto2008.org. Pledge to pray and do an act of penance each day or say your favorite prayer each day for the administration. More things are changed by prayer than this world dreams. God help America.

Sir:

In response to Bernard Griswold's letter to the editor (Nov. 7 issue), he admonished you and The Northern Virginia Daily for publishing a letter to the editor written by Carroll K. Mauck on Oct. 30 and published Nov. 1.

Surely, Mr. Griswold didn't like what was written in the letter. But more important, he had the audacity to condemn your paper for printing the letter. I believe in the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. In the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment provides for, and protects, "freedom of speech."

Mr. Griswold, I was exercising my right to freedom of speech and The Northern Virginia Daily was exercising its right to "freedom of the press."

Mr. Griswold stated the kind of information in my letter encourages intolerant and dishonest approaches to our political process that do not allow voters to make wise choices. Since when does telling the truth and presenting facts during a political campaign become intolerant and dishonest or hinder wise choices?

Every item mentioned in my letter was based on documented and acknowledged facts, with sources to back them up. I know, sometimes the truth hurts. (Oh, and by the way, when I think of little babies born alive after a botched abortion and left to die without medical attention, yes, I still could puke).

He described my letter as being a drivel and should not have been published. The only drivel I could find was his own driveling about my letter. His lack of knowledge and concern about freedom of speech and freedom of the press is acknowledged.

Sir:

The election is over and we have a new president-elect. There will be no more election ads on radio and TV (thank goodness) and no more election letters.

Now regardless of how one voted, it has to be recognized that what has happened this year is momentous. We almost nominated a women to be the candidate for president of one of our major parties. A woman was chosen to be one of the candidates for vice president. One hundred and forty-four years after the Emancipation Proclamation, 43 years after the Voting Rights Act and 40 years after the Civil Rights act, the United States of America has elected a black American to become the next president of the United States.

But I think there is something ever more portentous. The president-elect has a black father and a white mother. He represents all of us. If we all could have our DNA tested to examine our racial heritage, it is hard to tell what surprises we would find.

This is our country, folks. This is the United States of America. I am so proud of our country and happy to have lived to see all of this. Godspeed, America.

And I have a very large hope. Thanks to color television we have all seen the map of our country with red and blue states during election after election. My hope is that during the next four years that map can be painted over -- painted over with horizontal stripes that are red, white and blue. Let us all pray for it.
