What's happening now?

Oops! Sorry!

I would like to apologize to our Dear Abby, Dr. Donahue and Heloise readers. Those columns were not included in Thursday’s paper as a result of our move from a Valley Scene section to a Business section. I assure you that those columns as well as community notes will have a place every day in our Community Notes/Columns section. (By the way, I especially like the Heloise column. Warning, name-dropping here - I met her when I worked at the San Antonio Express-News several years ago. I think she looks like her mother, the original Heloise.)

Digital first

I spoke at the Front Royal Kiwannis Club on Thursday evening and they were the first to hear about the Daily’s latest initiative for our online readers. Our reporters are now filing their stories in our Web publishing system. The stories will be edited and then go directly online. They will be able to update their stories online throughout the day, and the final version of that story will appear in the next day’s print edition.

The neat thing about going digital first is that our reporters will be able to file breaking news and photos directly from the scene. Our sports reporters are also filing stories and scores online first.
