What's happening now?

Reader comments

Reader comments on the Daily's website, www.nvdaily.com, have increased considerably in the past month.

The obvious reason is that comments are no longer moderated by an editor. As soon as a person posts a comment on a story, it goes live on the site.

Surprisingly, we have only had a few reports of what readers would consider abusive posts. That means commenters are either playing nice, or our readers have a high level of tolerance for the more questionable posts.

Festival coverage

Overheard in our newsroom:

"I want to interview Mario Lopez."

"No, I want to!"

"Who is Mario Lopez?"

Mario Lopez of TV's "Saved By The Bell" fame, will arrive in Winchester on May 5 to assume the role of grand marshal of the 85th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. I've been in this newsroom for the past four festivals, and this is the first time that I've actually heard more than one reporter volunteer to interview the grand marshal.
