What's happening now?

By Linda Ash - lash@nvdaily.com

Do you have a hobby or expertise in something that you’d like to share with our readers? If so, we may have some space in our paper and online for a guest column written by you.
We’d like a six month commitment, and a column at least once a month. I expect response to this invitation will be great, so there’s going to be some competition. I’m going to select five or six of the best columns to kick off this project.

So, if you would like to be considered as a guest columnist, please email your first column to me at lash@nvdaily.com. I’m looking for about 750 words of beautiful prose.

*County alerts *

Those of us who use the Internet daily forget that there are people in our area who don’t have Internet access. A reader called Wednesday with a great question about a story and editorial we wrote about Shenandoah County’s new emergency alerts that you can sign up for by going to the county website at www.shenandoahcountyva.us or to the Department of Fire and Rescue’s site at www.scfr.net. Her question: “How do you sign up if you don’t have Internet access?”

We left that information out of the story and editorial - and shame on us. I called Debbie Francis, emergency communications chief for Shenandoah County, and she asks that those of you without Internet access who want the alerts to call 540-459-6323 and leave a message with your name, phone number and home address as well as a mobile number if you want your alerts also sent to your cell.
