A hearty round of applause goes out to the Rotary Club of Woodstock for donating $8,000 in scholarships to Lord Fairfax Community College.
The $1,000 scholarships will go to eight Shenandoah County students with a 2.0 or higher GPA attending the college for the 2012-13 academic year.
What's neat about this scholarship is that the club decided not to set an age limit, so it may go to a student who just graduated from high school, or to an older student who is returning to college to make a career change.
Lord Fairfax Community College is the fastest growing community college in Virginia, according to information about enrollment released last week. In 2011, the college had 6,750 students enrolled in spring semester. Without help from clubs like the Rotary Club of Woodstock and private donors, some of those students would find it difficult to continue their education.
We commend the members of the Rotary Club of Woodstock for their generous donation.
