Letter to the Editor: Ryan's photo op not a big deal

I would first like to say that I am enjoying the changes on your opinion page. I particularly enjoy seeing all the new columnists.

But one of the new columnists, however, is becoming somewhat irritable, and that is Connie Schultz. I wrote a letter, which was published earlier this month, pointing out Schultz's terribly lopslided, unfair treatment of the Boy Scouts, and now in the Oct. 19 Opinion section she is complaining about a photo op that Mitt Romney's running mate, Paul Ryan, took advantage of.

So the horrible thing that Ryan did? Showed up (barged in, says Schultz) at a soup kitchen and donned an apron and had some photos of him taken "cleaning dishes."

Can you imagine! How dare he! Schultz, from your photo it appears that you are no longer a teenager, so, newsflash...this is not a big deal! I could find something much more consequential to write about the Republicans than this.

Full disclosure, I won't be voting for either of these presidential candidates. I'm terribly disappointed at the Republican offering.

G.A. Settle, Front Royal

I wouldn't be too hard on Ms Schultz, Mr. Settle; what she reported was factual. Does speak to the phoniness of the individual, if elected, that is one step from being the President of the United States. I worked in a country governed by a dictator (that was overthrown during my tour there) and that dictator was always doing disceptive photo ops to be played on the government-owned TV at the opportune moment. Expect more of the same if Romney and Ryan are voted the new leaders of the USG.

Romney won't release tax forms.
Governor Romney's records were sealed.
Olympic records were sealed.
Law suit records have gag order.

“Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides.”

Mr. Settle maybe you should research a little before you send letters off. The fake Ryan photo op was a big deal and it did hurt the soup kitchen heavily on their finances.

What is sad about this is the acceptance of lying, ruining others is "not a big deal".

Maybe Fox didn't tell the whole truth of Ryan barging in unasked and unwanted after the poor had been served and volunteers had cleaned up, and picked up clean dishes and pretended to wash them for photo ops sake, but plenty of other news sources did.

As user stated this whole stunt has cost this kitchen donors. Nope, its "not a big deal" to starve people, GOP motto is mine is mine, screw you, and that is exactly what Ryan did.

100% right with your comment Katy! At least he could have pretended he had a clue about washing dishes and removed his Rolex watch LOL.
