Andy Schmookler has a passion for the truth. You may wonder why a person who has such a high respect for the truth has decided that he would run for political office. The lies and half truths that today's Republican Party has adopted do not bode well for the future of this country. This is precisely why at this point in his life Schmookler has decided to step forward and run for Congress in the 6th District of Virginia.
We are at a crossroads. The complex problems that we face in this world are enormous. The decisions that we make today will determine what kind of world we will leave our children and grandchildren.
Schmookler has a high respect for science. He knows that global warming is a crisis that is real and cannot be ignored. He knows that depending on fossil fuels for our energy needs is a dead-end street and that renewable sources are our only hope for a sustainable future. He also understands that an investment in alternative energy and energy efficiency will be good for jobs and the economy.
On every issue, from the size of government to women's reproductive rights to health care and taxes, the Republican Party has moved to the extreme right. This policy is based on lies and backed by big money interest. It is also embraced by Schmookler's opponent, Bob Goodlatte. However, Schmookler is an optimist. He believes that good people from both parties will recognize the truth and will once again co-operate to move forward.
Whatever political party you may identify with, I encourage you to take a serious look at Andy Schmookler for Congress. I am confident that you will find his truthfulness refreshing and give him your vote on Nov. 6.
