Letter to the Editor: Replace boilers and roofs; don't fix Edinburg School

Editor:

Leaking roofs, 455 times in one year? I'd find another repairman! That's every other day on two different Shenandoah County schools!

If the life of the roof is 12 to 15 years, and they are 25 years old now, what do you expect? Like the boilers school Superintendent Dr. B. Keith Rowland is talking about, life expectancy is 25 years. They are now more than 40 years old, but we don't have a capital improvements fund to replace them. So, per Rowland's recommendation along with the Board of Supervisors, let's remoldel the Edinburg School for $4.5 million first, so that we can rent it out and maybe get a return on our money before the building falls down.

Now, if this would be your roof and your boiler, what would you do first? Got news for you, these schools are ours - the children for the Edinburg school are being taught now, it can wait.
