What's happening now? Yes, we do want to hear from you

By Linda Ash

The other day I had a reader send me a note telling me how much fun it was to see her letter printed in the paper. She noted that she and her husband had read the Washington Post every day for more than 50 years and not once in all that time had they been successful in getting one of their letters printed in that paper.

I told her thanks, and to keep her letters coming. I love reading what you have to say and I'm happy to include your letters and reader commentaries in our Opinion section each day.

A little secret to getting your letters published quickly: send them in by way of our Virtual Newsroom at nvdaily.com/virtual. We still accept letters by mail and email, but letters sent online through Virtual Newsroom won't get lost in the hundreds of emails we receive each day, and they don't end up in a spam folder. These letters also come in already typed. Letters that are handwritten, or come in typed but on paper, have to be retyped, and that creates a delay in getting to my desk.

All letters are edited and need to be 350 words or less. If you need more space, you may submit a reader commentary of 750 words or less. If you have a photo of yourself, or of something that you are writing about, send it in with your commentary and we'll consider using it.

Expect a phone call from us to verify your letters and reader commentaries. Also, we accept one letter a week from an individual writer.

As I noted above, we want to hear from you. In order to make it a bit easier to contact our reporters, I've asked them to include their work phone number extension and their email addresses at the end of each story. Call them up and let them know what you think about their stories, or pitch story ideas to them.

We look forward to hearing from you.
