Dear mayor, principal and athletic director of Strastburg High, and town of Strasburg: I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I was while visiting your town this weekend for the play-off game against Nottoway High School.
From the waitresses at Cristina's, to the women collecting money for Kiwanis, to the fans and volunteers at the game, your community radiated a feeling of warmth, honest-to-goodness hospitality, and genuine pride.
As a parent of Nottoway's kicker, and a school board member of Nottoway's school system, I was overwhelmed at the effort and amount of planning that went into making Strasburg look as though it was a "little town straight out of a football movie."
I came home just gushing over how impressed I was by everything we saw, so I wanted to take this opportunity to tell as many of you as I could. You all are doing a great job, and it didn't only show out on the field. The pride you all have in your students, school system and community is something that just isn't found in the hearts of most communities any more. Kudos to all of you! And thank you for making the Hinton family feel so welcomed.
Shelli Hinton, Blackstone, Va.
