Letter to the Editor: The past is prologue

Editor:

The presidential election is a referendum on the last four years. Barack Obama excited a lot of people, especially young people in 2008. In 2012, many of them must be disappointed because so many of Obama's 2008 campaign promises have not been kept.

What any candidate has done in the past is the best indicator of what he can do as the country's chief executive. Mitt Romney gives us a rare opportunity in 2012 - a candidate who has been successful as an executive in three different situations. Obama's accomplishments before he was elected president, and even including his presidency, pale by comparison.

In each of Romney's executive positions, he had different objectives, and his objectives as president will be different again. Having succeeded three times already makes it likely that he will be able to execute a program that will succeed again, more likely than his opponent who has fumbled the past four years.

At Bain Capital, the objective was profit. Sometimes Bain cut American jobs. Bain also created jobs. Keeping/creating jobs was not the objective. Plant closings and other job cuts may have been necessary to save other jobs. Jobs may have been outsourced, but moving work to lower cost areas is inevitable, like water running downhill. Just because Bain cut some jobs doesn't mean that Romney would do that as president. As president, an objective will be to create them.

In the debates, Obama accused Romney of having investments in China. Any savvy, diversified investor has investments in China, Russia, Brazil, India... When Romney asked Obama if he has investments in China, Obama ignored the question. In fact, we all invest overseas. Take a look at the labels in your clothes. They are all made in Third World countries.

As chief executive of the Salt Lake Olympics, Romney took on a failing situation and turned it around.

Obama's watchword in 2008 was, "change!" He would change how Washington worked. He has failed to deliver this promise. He hardly ever met with the congressional opposition. As Massachusetts governor, Romney met with the opposition every week.

Mitt Romney hasn't been consistent on his position on abortion. On the other hand, Barack Obama has been consistent throughout his career - on abortion, including partial birth abortion, and infanticide (leaving a baby that has survived abortion to die. We know what his policy will be if re-elected. Mitt Romney now presents himself as a pro-life candidate. That is more important than whether he has changed. If your point was to sway voters from voting for Mitt Romney because he is inconsistent, that dog won't hunt. Though Barack Obama is consistent on Pro-abortion, he is consistently wrong.

Mr. Bost, do you actually read these letters before you comment or do you grab a phrase and run with it. This letter is for Myth Romney SO CALM DOWN.

Are you really that unable to check the facts on the fiilbusters in the last 4 years or have you been living in another country or maybe under a rock?

I'm bad, I forgot you don't have a clue what a filibuster or opposition is do you?

I behold 2 politicians whom I've stripped all form of ideology. Now I see resumes consisting of one who is a slick talking lawyer with little if any leadership or financial experience in fact quite a few failures not to mention a looming scandal/coverup. The other, a successful businessman with a history of cooperative relationships, building businesses, creating jobs etc. I'm failing and in bankruptcy and must retain someone to turn things around. The choice is clear to me.

I behold someone who needs to view other "news" sources...

It is a sad state of affairs the lows the right have sunk to.

In other news, when the bankruptcy king Donald Trump tweeted out Romney's Chrysler lie...Ralph Gilles from Chrysler promptly tweeted back "You are full of (enter epithet for elephant dung here)!", followed by an apology for language, but that lies are lies.

@ user re November 2, 2012 7:09 AM post: The validity or invalidity of the points you try to make disappear in the fog of your snide comments.

I am very curious as to what proof you can offer to us "disbelievers" that Romney is the better candidate.

Review the transcripts of the third and last debate to see your hero literally parroting Obama' word for word. Dare you to review them!

Obama - Worked his way through college with--of all things--a job - imagine that!

''Romney (and wife) - Paid their way through college living on his stock options...just what all typical college student would do, right?

--MA Governor - destroyed all emails, some files, and the evidence of this "successful" (sic) period of time; he purchased all the computers in his offices to ensure they could not be comprised. WHY?

--SLC Olympics - If it were SO SUCCESSFUL, why did he have his records from that event sealed for 15 years...yes, sealed for 15 years. Repeat, why?

Afraid to release his tax records. Why?
