Having recently moved back to Virginia, it is apparent that our commonwealth is behind the times when it comes to voting.
Early voting exists in a number of states now, and needs to be adopted in Virginia as well.
For the 11 years we lived in Florida, we always voted early at the local library. We never had to wait in line for more than two to three minutes, and it made voting hassle-free.
The pressure of having to vote on one given day during very specific hours is stressful for many reasons, and may cause people to avoid voting altogether. Yes I know you can vote absentee, but recent experiences of doing this locally were quite frustrating.
Let us push our governor and members of the General Assembly to pass legislation allowing for early voting in Virginia. And while they're at it, get the Virginia elections to coincide with national elections - it would save a ton of money and get more people voting too.
