Letter to the Editor: Obama's goal is to do what's best for Americans

Editor:

Moving forward...

Voters in Shenandoah County have a chance re-elect a president whose only goal is to do what is best for the American people. He is not seeking wealth or power.

Some of his accomplishments in the last four years have been especially beneficial to local voters. Stimulus funds were used to keep teachers and first responders employed. Families are able to keep their children on health insurance policies until they reach the age of 26. Thousands have benefitted from new rules providing access to free preventive care with no out-of-pocket cost. Benefits were enhanced for individuals on Medicare, and the solvency of the Medicare Trust Fund was extended for eight years. The war in Iraq is ended and the involvement in Afghanistan is winding down to a specific date. He is unswerving in his respect and support for women as full-fledged citizens with the right to make their own health decisions. The economy is coming back from the brink of disaster at a steady pace based on solid fundamentals, instead of gimmicks and giveaways.

Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine worked very hard to move Virginia forward during their terms of office, so much so that Virginia cannot be seen today as rejoining the group of states long described as backward and underdeveloped. Virginia's low rate of unemployment is attributable to the above average literacy level and the presence of federal government or related jobs. Keep Virginia moving forward in consonance with enlightened people of other states.

Our problems cannot be solved if they and their source cannot be identified in an honest way. How can we solve a problem if we cannot truthfully state what it is and how it came into being? Truth is important. Andy Schmookler's campaign for Congress is primarily devoted to bringing truth back into political discourse.

Vote to re-elect President Obama, elect Kaine as U.S. senator and Andy Schmookler as congressman.

Good to know there are people out there who actually understand the issues and know the only choice in this upcoming election is the Democratic ticket all the way! We cannot afford to "experiment" with a vote that won't count.

Rhinestone Cowboy, Allen, will (hopefully) go away and be seen no more: he's just another Republican Clone! And Mr. "Pay Raise Goodlatte" needs another career: he has milked this one dry!

Andy Schmookler seems to be an intelligent, thoughtful man with real insight about the problems our country faces. I believe he will serve the people instead of focusing on his own re-election. Now won't that be different? Let's give Andy a chance to help us!

    Good letter Mr. Saniful.

The day after taking office he could have stopped ALL wars. After all, he is Commander In Chief.

He FAILED to do that and continues in that FAILURE.

He failed to prosecute any members of the previous administration for their roles in torture, rendition, and illegal wars that have led to deaths of our own military people and countless deaths of innocents in the target countries. Those brave military officers who dared speak out have been forced to resign.

He has assumed dictator powers by doing an "end run" around Congress to encourage ILLEGAL immigration. See Google for "Dream Act".

He has interfered repeatedly with state governments that try to control our borders when the federal government has refused to act.

He GAVE printed money to bankrupt corporations which IMMEDIATELY used that money for bonuses of the corrupt corporate officers. If that same money had been given to Social Security recipients, they would have spent it in ways that would have led to immediate recovery.

The other candidate will be MUCH worse on all of these points.

Such is life under the dictatorial domination of the Dominionist Empire Musical Chairs Party.

It is all described in detail at...

    http://www.realityisfree.com/orwell.html

      Sorry John, you're off base.

      1. He couldn't have just up and "ended" 2 wars. Like the crashing economy (or a car on an icy road) you can't just stop on a dime...it's just not possible. The fact that he's gotten out of Iraq and has a timetable for getting out Afghanistan at all is a testament to the man, compared with who he defeated in 2008 (who wanted to stay in Iraq) and the man he faces now (who wants to stay in Afghanistan).

      2. Prosecuting the previous administration was a non-starter...and there were many who wanted to pursue that route. It was never going to happen.

      3. "encourage" illegal immigration? Illegal immigration DROPPED since the President took office. He's increased border security, and was in favor of the DREAM act, as am I, instead of "self-deporting". Notice that he stopped following through on that promise, by the way, and has caught a lot of flak for that decision.

      4. He gave "printed money" to corporations for bonuses? That was TARP. That was signed by President Bush. And, I would agree with you about better ways to have spent the money.

I'd also agree that Romney is far worse on these particular topics.

Is Obama a member of the plutocracy? Absolutely. Is he a far better and viable alternative than the GOP candidate, IMO, absolutely. Would we be better off with a "Gary Johnson"? Perhaps...but that's just not going to happen this cycle.

If a Commander In Chief can't order the troops home YESTERDAY, then he is only another CAPTIVE spokesperson for the PENTAGON which gives the marching orders to carry out the edicts of the Dominionist Empire Musical Chairs Party.

    http://www.realityisfree.com/stopwar.html

He couldn't bring them home because of the Status of Forces agreement BUSH signed in Dec of 2008 keeping them there. Despite Republican protest President Obama brought them home as soon as he was able.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S.%E2%80%93Iraq_Status_of_Forces_Agreement

Mr. Horne with all due respect it would have looked badly on the US had we pulled out prior to the allotted time-frame even if it wasn't Obama that signed it. As long as there is humans, there will be war somewhere, whether you like it or not. This election Obama or Romney will win even if you stay home. You either help choose how trigger happy they are or don't.

Obama needs to be booted out of office. Not only has he not brought the troops home but the economy is at it's worse. Now he has that cover up going on that he is involved in. For people to ask for his help in other countries and him deny help even though he knows they will be killed is no type of president to be running this country. A president that does not honor the flag but stands with his hands at his side is not the type of president to run this country. The people in Benghazi that begged for his help and he kept telling others to stand down instead of letting them help and he cost those people their lives. If it was his family over there I bet he would have let someone go in and try to help. He is not a man and definately not the president we need in charge. This country is sunk if he stays in office.

Diane: the economy is at it's worse

      So You don't read?

"Benghazi that begged for his help..."

Diane, Libya is a 30 percent danger pay post and FSOs opt to serve in these posts unlike military that are sent to an area. Ambassador Stevens' mother said he was exactly where he wanted to be and. in fact, this was his SECOND TOUR in Libya. Probably the same applies to the three other men as well.

I wish you people would stop with the nonsense you post about this--something you know nothing about; if is obvious to anyone who is or has been an FSO that you are totally ignorant about what FSOs commit too.

jane, your service as an FSO although commendable, is completely irrelevant. The question is: did Obama, and his people, act properly before the attack? And more important, did they act properly during and after the attack? There is evidence to answer the first question 'maybe not.' There is evidence to answer the second question 'absolutely not.'

We knew the details of the Seal Team 6 raid on bin Laden's hiding place and the rescue of two hostages held by Somali pirates within hours. Those actions made Obama look good. Now, four weeks after the attack, we still don't know the details about Benghazi. Could it be because it will make Obama look bad?

    Quoting...

Article 2 - The Executive Branch
Section 2 - Civilian Power Over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments

    The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States;

    ===============================

The "Status of Forces" Agreement was only a delaying tactic to keep USA forces in Iraq AGAINST THE WILL of the Iraq people. As such, it had no MORAL force behind it.

And, that certainlY DOES NOT excuse the continued presence of USA forces in Afghanistan or the Middle East.

Come on, Obama. Grow a pair and bring the troops home NOW!

Otherwise, be a man and ADMIT that you are only a TOOL of the Dominionist Empire Musical Chairs Party and that any change of chair occupants will have no significant effect in slowing the plunge toward DOOMSDAY.

Coming into the home stretch it's Diana, Katybug and Jane8. It's Katybug, Diana and Jane8. Diana, Jane8 and Katybug. If this election was a horse race these three nags would be in the running.
If any of you are considering suicide should the community organizer not win re-election I'm willing to provide the bullets. I'm no Dr. Kevorkian but I figure any assistance I can give you will feel like the government assistance you support.

I as a normal disagreer with those folks you mentioned, don't like your comment. For what it's worth.

OOooo..."can't abide", Sorry buddy, this woman has been to hades and back your little words are only comedy.

I'm all for Christian, as long as someone else isn't trying to push their view of what is supposedly Christian on me.

Right to Life? I'm all about it. All about making sure living breathing people have basic needs. That life saving treatments are given to those who need, not just those who can afford. That food and shelter are provided for those in need. That quality education is made available for everyone, so success in life isn't just based upon how many stocks mommy and daddy owned. That a quality programs are there when I'm old so I don't have to move in with my children because my voucher just doesn't cover it. Making sure I am not condemned to death should my surgery fail because some teatard doesn't grasp that a tubal pregnancy will NEVER be anything, and most importantly making sure my daughters lives aren't ruined because some men are just routing pigs and don't understand no! For a start.

Republican, my Father is one, (very Pentecostal too to boot) and next to my husband there isnt a man I respect more.

Now TEABILLY.... okay, you got me there. When ignorance and loss of simple ability to think for ones self takes over, I oppose it. Loudly.

    No worries, Tuesday will come.

See what I mean? All anyone has to do is give your opinion a tickle and you're all mouth. You think the more verbose you are, the better your point. WRONG!
If someone differs with your opinion you're like the odor that just won't go away.
An opinion that differs with yours just causes you to drone on endlessly. You're the rash no one wants.

It seems the 'nightclerk' argument is not about SOMEBODY always having a comment, it is about WOMEN always having a comment. Mrs. 'nightclerk' must live a wonderful battered woman existence. Although if 'nightclerk' is actually a motel nightclerk, his life must be filled with sticky-paged magazines.

Pigs are animals notorious for wallowing in their own crap.

This from 'nightclerk': "Women have every right to express their opinion. I just can't abide mouthy."

People like 'nightclerk' reveal exactly 'who' they are and 'what' they are everytime they express themselves. They not only dig their own hole but provide their own shovel.

I have read and re-read the letter to the editor and every comment and see nothing to convince me that nightclerk is a male. No doubt there are those who comment far more often than most but perhaps this is the only social outlet they have. Regardless, give 'em a break.

Thank you, 411, thank you. Gender has never been mentioned nor has the nature of the screen name nightclerk. There are clerks who work at night in hundreds of business environments. In other words, for the presumptuous - it's what you know, not what you think you know.

While I don't see it as a real possibility locally, one never knows...with so many states having fraud/obstruction issues this year

    — 9:40 p.m. The CIA annex receives its first call that the consulate has come under attack.

    — Less than 25 minutes later, the security team leaves the annex en route to the consulate.

    — Over the next 25 minutes, team members approach the compound and attempt to get heavy weapons. When they cannot secure heavy weapons, they make their way onto the compound itself in the face of enemy fire.

    — 10:30 p.m. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House and discussing the attack. Panetta returns to the Pentagon and has a series of meetings, including with Gen. Carter Ham, head of U.S. Africa Command.

    — 11:11 p.m. A Defense Department surveillance drone aircraft — an unarmed Predator — that had been requested arrives over the consulate compound. Some time later a second drone arrives and takes over the mission.

    — 11:30 p.m. All U.S. personnel have departed the consulate except for Stevens, who is missing. The vehicles come under fire as they leave the facility.

    — Over the next 90 minutes, the CIA annex comes under sporadic fire from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. The security team returns fire, dispersing the attackers.

    — 12:30 a.m. The first U.S. military unit is ordered to begin moving to Libya. By 3 a.m., two teams of special operations forces — one from Fort Bragg, N.C., and one from central Europe — and a Marine anti-terrorism unit are preparing to depart.

    — Around 1 a.m., a team of additional security personnel from Tripoli lands at the Benghazi airport and attempts to find a ride into town. Upon learning that Stevens is missing and that the situation at the CIA annex has calmed, the team focuses on locating Stevens and obtaining information about the security situation at the hospital.

    — Before dawn, the team at the airport finally manages to secure transportation and armed escort. Having learned that Stevens is almost certainly dead and that the security situation at the hospital is uncertain, the team heads to the CIA annex to assist with the evacuation. In the attack, the State Department also has said that a department computer expert, Sean Smith, was killed.

    — 5:15 a.m. The team arrives at the CIA annex, with Libyan support, just before mortar rounds begin to hit the facility. Two CIA security officers — Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty — are killed when they take direct mortar fire while engaging the attackers. The attack lasts only 11 minutes before dissipating.

    — Less than an hour later, a heavily armed Libyan military unit arrives at the CIA annex to help evacuate all U.S. personnel and takes them to the airport.

    — A military medical evacuation aircraft flies all of them out of Libya.

The timeline from the Obama administration that you cite from the WashPest has been disputed by observers. The security team went to the Embassy on their own after being ordered to "stand down." Obama and company watched the action as the drone sent back video.

The only accurate statement is that it took Obama 3 hours after the attack began to order help.

When Panetta said "you don't send troops into harm's way without knowing the situation" he either told an expedient lie or he is unqualified to be SecDef. Our guys are trained to deal with the unexpected.

More baffelgab from vp.... the Wash Post timeline was disputed by observers, huh, vp? Who might those 'observers' be? Those fair and balanced entertainers over at Fox Spews? Glenn or Rush, maybe? Osama giving orders from Davy Jones' locker???

Yes sir, when I am presented with a choice of who to believe... The Washington Post or valley patriot.... hands down.... my choice is The Washington Post.

Discrediting Teabillies is easier than shooting fish in a barrel.

vp: find any distortions by Big Bird in his list of 923 Romney lies?
