Letter to the Editor: Born free, taxed to death!

Editor:

My Democratic friends simply cannot understand that taking money from my right hand and putting it in my left is not an economic stimulus. This nonsense about increasing tax rates only to provide another deduction is counterproductive and ignores all other kinds of new taxes.

Take for example what I will call the septic tax. I now have to pay a man $250
a year to come out for one hour and tell me my septic system is working; a marvel of modern engineering that has performed flawlessly for 10 years.

Yet in a flat economy where more income is unlikely, I must eliminate something else from my budget in order to comply. And the service provider makes nothing either. Between the cost of the call and the time preparing forms to affirm compliance, it's simply money gone into burgeoning government regulations. Born free, taxed to death!

William Shifflett, Edinburg
