Letter to the Editor: Address timing of trash collection

Regarding the trash article recently in the paper: I live in the Hupp's Hill townhouses, not the ones targeted in the paper. However, I do want to say that I think the Strasburg town manager and the Town Council have the solution to this problem backward.

When bags are put out for collection, the garbage men pick them up and they are gone. When I put out a trash can, the garbage man empties it, leaves the container and that container blows in the wind, into the street, down onto Crystal Lane if it is windy. The containers sit there until folks come home from work at the end of the day.

I think the problem is misidentified. Bags go away more promptly than do trash containers. If the problem is the timing of the placement of the bags, then address that as the problem and work to correct that.
